When I visit Las Vegas I like to spend some time playing full pay video poker.Being from the East this is the only time I have the opportunity to playgames like Deuces Wild which offer 100% return with proper play. Since Ilearned how to play Texas Hold'em over a year ago I also like to play livepoker in the nice poker rooms in town as well as participate is some of thelow limit tournaments.

On a trip earlier this year I participated in some low limit tournamentsoffered in the morning. The Strip does not offer the video poker games Idesire so I spent the afternoons visiting many of the local casinos toplay video poker. At night I would head down to the bigger poker rooms onthe Strip to play some low limit Texas Hold'em. This was a lot of runningaround to do which wasn't too bad when the temperatures were mild in thespring but not something I looked forward to in July when the temperaturessoar to over 100 degrees during the day.

Last week I was in Las Vegas to attend a gathering for the subscribers ofthe Video Poker Player newsletter. The event was held at the luxurious RegentResort Hotel and Casino. I was pleasantly surprised at what I found there. It had everything I was looking for in one location. The Regent has undergone some changes recently and now offers some great full pay games for videopoker players. Earlier this year they also added a poker room.

The Regent opened their poker room in March and it is as luxurious as therest of the property. It is located in a separate room, which keeps out thenoise form the main casino. There are four TV sets around the room tunedto the latest sporting events so players can keep an eye on the game if theyso desire. There is also a lounge area with a big screen TV to help passthe time if you find yourself on the waiting list for a game.

There are six poker tables offering a variety of games including Hold'em,Stud and Omaha. Many of the games are geared to the low limit player. Thereis a $2/4 Hold'em game with a single two dollar blind as well as a $4/8 game.Stud games include $1-5 and there is a $2-6 Omaha game as well. Higher limitgames are also offered to fill the needs of all the players.

On July 2nd the Regent poker room kicked off their new daily low-limit TexasHold'em tournaments. I was on hand to play in the inaugural match. Thetournaments are held every day at 10am and are limited to thirty players. The tournament is structured so the first hour is limit Hold'em with increasesin the limits every 15 minutes. This is followed by a ten-minute break andthen the tournament switches to no limit play. It's a nice tournament anda great way to start the day.

The poker room is well run and I found it to be a comfortable place to play.I spoke to poker room manager Carol Trimble and was told there are some plansto bring in a major tournament in the future. With the efficient and dedicatedstaff in the poker room I'm sure the new daily tournaments and any biggerones planned in the future will be a big success.

The recent changes at the Regent were brought about by some economic problemsthat lead to a change in attitude by the management. It is a beautiful propertythat has a lot to offer. Hopefully the Regent will continue to its new playerfriendly atmosphere. I look forward to playing there during my future trips.
